HIV/AIDS EDUCATION AND RESOURCES

The BB Faith Based CDC received a grant in January, 2021 from the Florida Office of Minority Health and Health Equity to provide advocacy and outreach over the next 2 years using social media platforms such as Chevy D TV on YouTube.com and Where My Sistas At? to promote Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE), the use of prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent transmission of HIV,  encourage early diagnosis, and rapid testing.

During the last eight months, we have held one event on Chevy D TV, held virtual educational conversations with 453 individual, handed out 306 program publicity materials, 364 educational materials, and provided face-to-face education to 24  individuals.

Although Black/African Americans represent almost 13 percent of the U.S. population, they account for 42.1 percent of HIV infection cases in 2019.

In December 2019, President Biden announced the goal to end the HIV epidemic in the United States within 10 years. As a result, Health and Human Services launched the Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE):  Plan for America initiative, which will leverage data and tools, to reduce new HIV infections in the US by 75% in five years ad by 90% by 2030. These efforts focus on four key strategies that together can end the HIV epidemic in the US.

1. Diagnose all people living with HIV as early as possible after transmission.

2. Treat HIV rapidly and effectively to achieve sustained viral suppression.

3. Prevent HIV Transmission among people at highest risk with pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), syringe servicing programs (SSPs) and prevention education.

4. Respond rapidly to detect and respond to HIV outbreaks to get prevention and treatment services to those who need them.
